What it is

At BCS, we believe talent comes from many paths. The Athlete Scheme is our inclusive hiring program designed to open doors into the data centre and critical infrastructure sector. It gives former athletes transitioning from sport the opportunity to build skills, gain real-world experience, and grow into a long-term career in one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.

Why we launched it

The data centre sector is growing fast, but it faces a significant skills gap. In our latest summer report, where we asked over 3,000 industry professionals about their biggest concerns, 90% pointed to the lack of new talent entering the sector and the need to raise awareness among the next generation. At the same time, we know athletes bring something special. Discipline, teamwork, resilience, and a fresh perspective. That’s why we created this scheme: to open new pathways into the industry, support talented people in their next chapter, and make our sector stronger, more diverse, and ready for the future.

How it works

• Structured learning – you’ll get hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to live projects.

• Support system – from day one, you’ll be part of a team that guides, supports, and challenges you. 

Success so far

The scheme has already welcomed five former athletes from sports including football, rugby, volleyball, and hockey. They’ve gone on to build careers in areas such as project management, cost management, and marketing. Their journeys show that with the right support, new talent can thrive in a sector that keeps the digital world running.
